WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – Two young road workers were injured when they were hit by a suspected DUI driver on Lummi Shore Road Tuesday afternoon.
The State Patrol reports James Harris of Lynden and Carson Moyes of Ferndale were cutting grass on the shoulder when an SUV driven by Lio Redfox of Bellingham veered into a guardrail and then hit them.
The 19 and 20-year-old county employees were seriously hurt and taken to PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center.
Redfox was treated at the scene.
Two children ages 5 and 10 who were passengers in the SUV weren’t hurt but it’s unclear if they were properly restrained.
Troopers say drugs or alcohol were involved and the crash remains under investigation.
