MOUNT VERNON, Wash. — A Mount Vernon teacher is Washington’s Teacher of the Year.

Superintendent of Public Instruction Chris Reykdal announced Monday Robert Hand, a family and consumer sciences teacher at Mount Vernon High School, is this year’s winner.

Hand has been a teacher at Mount Vernon since 2013 and in addition to being an adviser for the school’s Social Justice Club and FCCLA.

Reykdal says Hand makes sure his teaching goes beyond the classroom and relates to the community while helping build and strengthen the teaching profession.
