OLYMPIA, Wash. – The Washington State Department of Health is advising people who use kratom to stop.

The Department says the Centers for Disease Control is investigating an outbreak of salmonella liked to kratom products in 27 states, including Washington.

3 persons in Washington have become ill due to the outbreak; two of those were hospitalized.

Kratom is a plant often consumed for its stimulant effects and as an opioid substitute.
