FERNDALE, Wash. — Sandy Point residents, the state and the owner of two sunken boats are at a standoff over what to do with them.
Craig Kovacevich has had his and his late father’s boat moored in the waterway for ten years.
F/V Coral Sea sank three years ago and the other boat, F/V Furious Sea, began sinking recently.
Residents say they’re an eyesore and a danger but Kovacevich tells KIRO 7 they’re not derelict by state standards.
He says he’s tried to raise the boats but they’re stuck in the mud and he can’t get the heavy equipment he needs into the waterway until it’s dredged.
The Lummi Nation has gotten involved in the process to get the boats removed, which they hope the estate of Kovacevich’s late father might pay for.
