OLYMPIA, Wash. — The State Patrol says scammers are spoofing a patrol-related phone number and sending threatening voicemails.
The voicemail claims explosive devices have been placed around the recipient, and directs them to a specific website to ensure their safety.
People around the state have complained of getting this same message.
The tone, substance, and fraudulent use of the State Patrol’s number is designed to confuse or frighten victims into complying.
While there is no indication of any actual threat, troopers advise anyone who receives a threatening call of any sort to contact law enforcement and report the threat with any caller ID information.
