BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Phone scammers are targeting local residents while claiming to represent the sheriff’s office, fire department and more.
Whatcom County Sheriff Bill Elfo says scam callers continue to claim to represent his department and demand payment for missed jury duty and other infractions.
The Bellingham Fire Department posts on Facebook that someone has been trying to sell advertising in its name.
Whatcom County 911 posts that they’ve received calls from people who’ve been contacted with demands for their information so they can be issued a new social security number.
Even the state health department says doctors offices and clinics have received calls from people claiming to represent the department.
These are all scams and you’re urged to be skeptical and investigate any unsolicited calls you receive.
