The Seattle Seahawks rise to prominence has under GM John Schneider and coach Pete Carroll has been built around defense. Seattle used 3 of their 4 picks in the 3rd round of the NFL Draft Friday night to help restock that side of the ball.
The Seahawks used the 90th overall selection on defensive back Shaquill Griffin out of Central Florida. Griffin said he is strictly a corner, but if Seattle needs him to play safety, he can do it. given the injury concerns surrounding the Seahawks defensive backfield, his versatility may be needed.
Seattle stayed in the defensive backfield with the 95th overall selection of safety Delano Hall out of Michigan. The former college teammate of Seahawks rush specialist Frank Clark drew big praise from Carroll and Schneider for his unbelievable speed.
Defensive tackle Nazair Jones was the third defensive player selected in the 3rd round by Seattle. He went 102nd overall with a compensatory pick. As a junior in high school Jones suffered from Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, nearly giving up football. He had to relearn how to walk before eventually going on to star at UNC.
The lone selection on the offensive side of the ball in the third round was Michigan wide receiver Amarah Darboh. He was also a compensatory pick at number 106 overall.
Seattle has 5 more selections Saturday for rounds 4-through-seven of the NFL Draft.
