SEATTLE, WASH. – May Day, a day typically filled with peaceful protests and marches, is Monday.

But, violent riots in years past have Seattle City leaders concerned and City Council member Kshama Sawant is accused of making the situation worse.

KOMO reports Mayor Ed Murray and the State Patrol are condemning printed comments from Sawant calling for protesters to shut down the freeway.

On February 11, Bellingham demonstrators blocked I-5 near Lakeway in protest of the Dakota Access Pipeline.

They backed up traffic for miles and troopers say one person was injured in a rollover crash due to the protest.

When asked directly, Sawant simply told KOMO, “We advocate for non-violent, civil disobedience as a general idea.”
