SEATTLE, Wash. — The Seattle Kraken aren’t messing with the name but the team is willing to make at least one concession to head-off a copyright lawsuit.
Seattle’s new NHL team says they’ll drop the name Kraken Bar & Grill from a restaurant planned for its new Northgate Mall training facility.
The Seattle Times reports it’s an effort to head off a $3.5 million lawsuit filed by a U-District punk rock bar that wants the team to dump the name altogether.
The Kraken Bar & Lounge says it’s used the name since 2011 and the confusion is tarnishing its image as one of Seattle’s last dive bars.
The lawsuit says long-term bar patrons were irritated by people showing up in “hockey themed attire.”
A lawyer for the bar says the team’s move is “a good start” but “doesn’t undo the damage already done to the bar’s brand.”
