SEATTLE, Wash. – A Seattle woman was sentenced to 3 years probation after defrauding public assistance programs of over $328,000 in 2010.
U.S. Attorney Annette Hays says the sentence was handed down in U.S. District Court in Seattle Friday.
Deka Hirsi was 30 at the time and lied about being a single parent of 5 children as well as about being a caregiver to elderly parents to defraud various agencies.
The judge said he avoided giving a prison sentence due to the PTSD defenders said Hirso suffers from her childhood in Somalia.
Hirso was ordered to pay restitution.
