OLYMPIA, Wash. — The state’s top elections official won’t be registering a vote in this year’s presidential primary.
Secretary of State Kim Wyman tells KING 5 that she’ll fill out a ballot but won’t check whether she’s a Republican or Democrat, which will invalidate her vote.
She says that since President Trump is the only Republican on the ballot she would be disclosing who she voted for by checking the Republican box.
Some are criticizing her for the move, but she says a principle is at stake.
The parties say they need to know the affiliation of people voting in the primary for the information to be relevant to their candidates and the race for the White House.
