SEDRO-WOOLLEY, Wash. — The Sedro-Woolley City Council approved an 80% pay raise for future council members, and the split decision has some on the council upset.

Councilmember Germaine Kornegay expressed anger at the decision, telling the Skagit Valley Herald that it was a slap in the face to their staff and the understaffed departments they work with.

Sedro-Woolley City Supervisor and Attorney Eron Berg said the pay increase may require upping city taxes and utility rates or making cuts to other departments.

The $400 increase in pay will go into effect incrementally as new council members are elected, applying to all council members in 2022.
