BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Sehome High School’s head football coach has resigned.
Sehome Principal Sonia Cole said in a letter to parents and students involved in the football program that Kevin Beason stepped down on Monday.
Beason had held the head coaching position for six years, and his last season was rocked by evidence of hazing between students on the football team.
The team forfeited a game on September 14th following the revelations, and Cole says an investigation found the behavior had occurred for years within the program.
Her letter says the team shows the need for “redirection and support on appropriate behavior on and off the field.”
Cole promises to involve students and families in the process of hiring a new coach and coaching staff.
