EVERSON, Wash. – A tanker truck carrying hot asphalt crashed early Thursday morning, spilling its contents and shutting down Everson-Goshen Road near Everson Elementary.

Pictures and video show rivers of hot asphalt running along the street and into Meade Avenue residents’ yards.

The truck was carrying nearly 7,000 gallons of hot asphalt and about 4,500 gallons leaked out onto the road and Russ Ondeck’s yard.

Everson Police Chief Dan McPhee says the driver, Kellen Botten, 27, was taken to the hospital, treated for minor injuries and released.

He was cited for negligent driving.

McPhee says Botten was going too fast as he attempted to make a turn.
