WASHINGTON, DC. – This Sunday, November 7th, Washingtonians will be turning their clocks back for what many hope will be the last time, and Senator Patty Murray took to the Senate floor to argue their case.

She and Florida Republican Marco Rubio are co-sponsors of the Sunshine Protection act, which she says would be good for the nation’s health and safety.

“Studies have shown that our switch to standard time can increase rates of seasonal depression as well as heart problems and risk of stroke,” says Murray. “Researchers also believe that if we made daylight saving time permanent, there would be fewer car accidents and evening robberies.”

She told the Senate on Thursday, November 4th, that staying on Daylight-Saving Time would also increase economic activity during winter months.

Washington State lawmakers have passed an act making the change permanent, but it will take action by the U.S. Congress to make it happen.
