OTTAWA (AP) — Jean-Gabriel Pageau (PA’-zhoh) has given the Ottawa Senators a 2-0 lead in the second round of the NHL’s Eastern Conference playoffs.
Pageau’s fourth goal of the afternoon completed the Senators’ comeback in a 6-5, double-overtime win over the visiting New York Rangers. The Blueshirts led 5-3 late in the third period until Pageau tallied 2:17 apart to tie the game with 62 seconds left in regulation. He ended it by taking a pass from Alexandre Burrows and firing a shot past Henrik Lundqvist at 2:54 of the second OT.
It was Pageau’s second career playoff hat trick, four years after he did it against Montreal.
Mark Stone and Marc Methot (meh-THAHT’) provided Ottawa’s other goals to support Craig Anderson’s 43-save performance.
Brady Skjei (shay) scored twice for the Rangers, who also got short-handed goals from Michael Grabner and Derek Stepan (STEH’-pahn).
Game 3 is Tuesday at Madison Square Garden.
