BLAINE, Wash. — It’s now safe to harvest shellfish on some Whatcom County beaches.
The Whatcom County Health Department says shellfish biotoxin levels in Drayton Harbor have dropped in recent weeks, leading them to re-open shellfish harvesting in Drayton Harbor only.
Unsafe levels of biotoxins are still being detected from Sandy Point north to the Canadian border, which includes Birch Bay and Point Roberts.
The Health Department is testing shellfish for biotoxins weekly. They will notify the public with any updates.
