BLAINE, Wash. — A Blaine man is in jail after he barricaded himself inside his home and fired a shot at deputies responding to a domestic dispute.
Chief Deputy Kevin Hester says Kyle R. Diehl was extremely intoxicated and suffering mental health issues when deputies arrived at the home in the 7000 block of Seashell Way near Birch Bay on Saturday afternoon.
Diehl’s girlfriend had left the home with their infant son but a five year old girl was still inside.
He eventually let the girl leave the house but refused officers’ demands to come out.
He fired one gunshot toward deputies before leaving the house after several hours of negotiations.
Officers arrested Diehl for first degree assault.
No one was injured in the incident, which involved a large response including a crisis negotiator, the Blaine Police, and the Whatcom County Sheriff and SWAT.
