BELLINGHAM, WASH. – It was a good shopping season for Whatcom County retailers.

Taxable retail sales were up nearly 8.5 percent in the fourth quarter compared to the same period a year earlier.

A further breakdown of the numbers shows that local stores alone saw a nearly  6.5 percent hike.

That’s despite a weak Canadian dollar that is keeping some people from making the trip down south.
