SEATTLE (AP) — The owner of the building that houses the iconic Showbox music venue in Seattle has filed a lawsuit against the city, claiming it failed to follow proper procedure when the city council approved a measure aimed at preserving the site.
The Seattle Times reports the lawsuit was filed after the city council included the Showbox last month in the Pike Place Market historic district, temporarily halting plans to construct an apartment tower on the site by a Vancouver, B.C. development company.
The lawsuit asks for $40 million in damages if the move isn’t reversed.
