BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Big corporate money is pouring into the campaign for Whatcom County Executive and supporters of candidate Satpal Sidhu are crying foul.

Phillips 66, which owns a refinery at Cherry Point, wrote a check for $70,000 to a political action committee that’s supporting Tony Larson for the position.

The Coalition for a Better Northwest Washington PAC has been using the money and other donations to fund ads on social media that claim dubious connections between Sidhu and national politicians and energy policies.

Sidhu supporter Alex Ramel claims the huge contribution wasn’t made within campaign law.

He’s filed a complaint with the Public Disclosure Commission that asserts the donation came too late in the campaign and wasn’t properly filed with the commission.

A PDC spokesperson says its unclear whether the commission will making a ruling before the November 5th election.
