BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The signs for the historic Pickett House in Bellingham are going back up, but the signs for the Pickett Bridge won’t return for now.

Both are named for George Pickett – A U-S Army officer who built Fort Bellingham before fighting for the Confederacy in the Civil War.

The Daughters of Pioneers owns the house and the city owns the bridge.

Some object to a city landmark being named after a Confederate general.

The signs were taken down after racial clashes in Charlottesville, Virginia.

The City Council wants the Historic Preservation Commission to study the issue before it makes any final decisions on bridge.

The directional signs for the house Pickett lived in will be back in place soon.
