LYNDEN, Wash. — A Lynden man was named Washington’s 2019 Small Business Person of the Year by the U.S. Small Business Administration.

Ross Black founded Simple Box Storage when he was a senior at Lynden High School in 1997 and today, it has eight locations across Washington, Idaho and Oregon.

The business rents and sells shipping containers for storage, moving or modification.

Simple Box Storage was selected based on metrics like net worth growth, job growth, innovation, and contributions to community-oriented projects.

Black was commended for providing containers and supplies for global and national disasters, sponsoring local community events and volunteering his time coaching and teaching local students.

“It is such a humbling thing to win an award like this because I know that it would be impossible without such amazing support around me,” Black says.
