BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Six Western Washington University track & field student-athletes have been selected as U.S. Track & Field and Cross County Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-West Region performers for the outdoor season.

Individuals with a top-5 performance in each event from each region earn USTFCCCA All-Region distinction, in addition to relay teams with a top-3 time from each region. The USTFCCCA award system is composed of eight regions – Atlantic, Central, East, Midwest, South, South Central, Southeast and West.

For the women, senior Bethany Drake (Sandy, OR) was named an All-West Region performer in the javelin for the fourth time in her career. Drake, who won the GNAC javelin title last weekend, will compete next week at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships for the fourth time in her career.

Senior Brittany Grant (Port Townsend, WA) earned the honor in the 3,000m steeplechase and will also represent WWU at the national championships. Grant won the 3,000m steeplechase at the GNAC Outdoor Championships and was an All-Region performer in two events during the 2017 indoor season.

Junior Anna Paradee (Tacoma, WA/Decatur), the school and conference record holder in the pole vault, was named All-Region in the pole vault for the second year in a row and will also be competing at the national championships. She also netted All-Region pole vault honors during the 2017 indoor season. Senior Jasmine McMullin (Sequim, WA), the GNAC outdoor triple jump champion in 2017 and 2016, posted a top-5 regional mark in the triple jump to net All-Region accolades for the second straight year.

On the men’s side, junior Brandon Pless (Sedro-Woolley, WA) earned All-Region honors in the shot put and discus. He was an All-Region performer in the shot put for the second year in a row, and also earned All-Region accolades in two events (shot put, weight throw) during the 2017 indoor season. Sophomore Alex Barry (Sequim, WA), the 2017 GNAC javelin champion, was named an All-Region javelin performer.

The Vikings recently placed 2nd (men) and 5th (women) at the GNAC Outdoor Championships last weekend. Drake, McMullin and Paradee will compete at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships next week, held May 25-27, in Bradenton, Fla.
