BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Six deputies from the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office are on administrative leave while an outside agency investigates a recent police-involved shooting.

Undersheriff Doug Chadwick says the leave is standard practice and not disciplinary in nature.

On Monday evening, October 12th, deputies responded to a tip regarding the location of a wanted murder suspect, identified as 34-year-old Zachary S. Ranahan.

In the process of arresting him, deputies fired shots, none of which struck the suspect.

The Skagit Multiple Agency Response Team, which is made up of detectives from several Skagit County police agencies, is investigating.
