SKAGIT CO., Wash.- Skagit County health officials have closed several shellfish harvest areas.
The South Skagit, Similk Bay, and Deception Pass sites have been shut down as of today.
Routine testing in blue mussels in those areas uncovered high levels of Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning, or PSP toxins.
PSP can cause abdominal pain, nausea, and respiratory issues, and cannot be cooked out of affected shellfish.
