MOUNT VERNON, Wash. — Skagit County now has two confirmed cases of hepatitis A.

Skagit County Public Health says they believe the patients were exposed in Skagit County, but they still don’t know the exact source of the infection and there may be other unrecognized cases in the community.

Public Health’s communicable disease and epidemiology lead told the Skagit Valley Herald that they are not sure whether the cases are connected to a statewide hepatitis A outbreak declared this summer.

She says hand washing is the number one way to protect yourself.
