SEATTLE, Wash. — A Sedro-Woolley area couple convicted in 2013 of killing their adopted daughter had their petitions to be released from prison denied.

The Skagit Valley Herald reports Larry and Carri Williams were convicted of first-degree manslaughter in the death of their adopted daughter Hana who died after she collapsed in the backyard after being outside for hours.

An autopsy showed she died of hypothermia and malnutrition.

The couple filed petitions with the state Court of Appeals asking that their cases be taken back to Skagit County Superior Court based on what they believe are unconstitutional errors made by their lawyers and the judge during their trial.

They requested to be released from prison while they awaited new trials, but the appeals court disagreed.
