MOUNT VERNON, Wash. — Skagit County officials will begin collecting opioid overdose data to improve local treatment programs.

Joanne Lynn with Skagit County Public Health told the Skagit Valley Herald hospitals and EMS providers will be required to report both fatal and nonfatal overdoses to their office beginning in April.

Lynn says the data will help her department create programs that are better targeted within the county as the data currently collected by the state lacks demographic and location specifics.

Collecting data locally will help Public Health learn more about the people who are treated for overdoses to understand which areas of the county are more at risk.
