SEDRO-WOOLLEY, Wash. — A record number of Skagit County students are getting STEM and health care scholarship funding through the State Opportunity Scholarship program.

The program says fifty-three students from various school districts around the county will receive up to about $1.2 million, or about $22,500 each, to help them attend universities and colleges in the state and study for these in-demand jobs.

Last year, forty-two Skagit County students got these scholarships.

The program has provided thousands of scholarships since it began in 2011.
