MARYSVILLE, Wash. — Skagit county hospitals are adjusting operations in response to a sharp increase in COVID-19 hospitalizations.

Skagit Regional Health announced Tuesday it is activating a surge plan to make hospital beds available to accommodate an influx of patients.

Staff at Skagit Valley Hospital and Cascade Valley Hospital will take steps to utilize additional appropriate areas for inpatient care, such as observation rooms and outpatient areas.

Skagit Regional Health’s Chief Quality Officer Josh Griggs says they will continue providing non-urgent medical procedures as long as it’s safe to do so.

He asks residents to take precautions to prevent the transmission of the virus, like wearing a mask, washing hands and distancing.
