The 46th Ski To Sea race from Mount Baker’s Heather Meadows to Fairhaven’s Maritime Heritage Park is underway. The skiers got underway this morning at 7:30 with wet snow and 48-degree temperatures.

Charles Dooley of the Tony’s Coffee team won first in that race on the Tony’s Coffee team in the Whatcom County Mixed division with a time of 18 minutes, 9 seconds. The Kid Goats came in the lead for the High School division and Andrew Horembala on the Archer’s Alehouse team pulled ahead of the Mt. Baker Ravens for first in their division.

BEAVER’S TREE SERVICE came out on top in the downhill ski leg with a time just over 22 minutes. For the Competitive Open division, Doug Stenclik on the Wenatchee Valley Brewing team came out on top with the Boomer’s Drive-In team coming in a few seconds later.

Wenatchee Valley Brewing held their first place position in the Competitive Open division with a first-place time on the running leg of the race. The second-place team in the division, Boomer’s Drive-In, wasn’t far behind.

The two were still neck-and-neck in the CX Bike leg with times only 30 seconds apart.

Boomer’s Drive-In rung the bell first for their third year winning the overall race and fourth year winning their division. Their overall time was 6:05:55. Newcomers Wenatchee Valley Brewing were only four seconds behind, winning second place in the Competitive Open Division.

BNP Realtors were division heads for Whatcom County Women. They finished just after Masters division winners Okanagan Express.

Kayaker Jonas Ecker rang the bell for the Baker Babes, first place winners in the High School Division.

418 teams are competing, up from 361 last year. Boomer’s Drive-In and Beaver’s Tree Service are each defending 2017 and 2018 titles in their respective Competitive Open and Whatcom County Open divisions. Tune into KGMI for updates throughout the day, including finish line coverage at Marine Park.
