Ski to Sea cancelled for 2nd year

BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Another 2021 pandemic casualty– The Ski to Sea Race is cancelled for the second year in a row.

Whatcom Events organizes the relay from Mount Baker to Bellingham Bay and Race Director Anna Rankin says it was best to make the call early this year.

She says they lost a lot of money they had invested in last year’s race before having to cancel it at the last minute as the pandemic took hold.

There were also concerns about racer safety and a survey of past team captains found that many weren’t planning on participating this year.

Whatcom Events has set up a GoFundMe account to help keep the organization financially healthy and ready to present next year’s Ski to Sea race and other events they organize.
