BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Blaine’s Smuggler’s Inn was the subject of a hearing before the U.S. Supreme Court on Wednesday, March 2nd.
The case involves a lawsuit the owner of the bed and breakfast, Robert Boule, brought against a border agent he says assaulted him and then passed information about the business to other federal agencies.
The Supreme Court is deciding whether Boule can sue a federal agent.
But testimony centered around the reputation of the establishment that sits just feet from Canada, and that federal officials say is an easy portal for people, drugs and money to cross the border.
They say Boule often leaves the door open for people to freely enter the B&B, which has rooms named after famous smugglers and other notorious figures including Al Capone.
