Classes haven’t started yet at Western Washington University, but Viking athletics is in full swing today. The cross country team and the volleyball squad are on the road, while both the men’s and women’s soccer teams host on the Western campus.
It’s a doubleheader at home on Harrington Field for the WWU soccer squads. It starts with the top-ranked WWU women’s soccer team playing its home opener, beginning the Great Northwest Athletic Conference schedule against visiting Western Oregon at 4 pm. The WWU men’s soccer team will play the second game of the doubleheader, hosting visiting Fort Hays State for a non-conference matchup with a 7 pm start time.
The WWU cross country team is at the Sundodger Invitational at the University of Washington. The meet features a total of eight races during the day and GNAC member schools Alaska, Central Washington, Concordia, Northwest Nazarene, Simon Fraser and Seattle Pacific are also scheduled to compete at the meet.
The 10th-ranked Western Washington University volleyball team (7-2) is in Nampa, Idaho to play Northwest Nazarene. WWU opened Great Northwest Athletic Conference play with a 3-1 victory (19-25, 25-17, 25-18, 25-19) over rival Central Washington Thursday night at Nicholson Pavilion.
