WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – Some flooding is now expected in areas near the Nooksack River in the next few days.
Wally Kost, Program Specialist with the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office Division of Emergency Management, says another system carrying a lot of rain is expected to arrive late Saturday.
He says it should bring 2 to 3 inches of rain to the lowlands of Whatcom County while higher elevations receive up to 6 inches.
Snow level will be 7000 to 8000 feet until Monday night when it should drop to the 2500 to 3000 foot range.
The river is expected to exceed flood stage in Everson starting late Sunday and remain there into Tuesday.
Ferndale should see the river at low flood stage early Monday and Marietta residents could see some flooding.
Extreme flooding is not expected but residents in flood-prone areas should be prepared to protect belongings and evacuate if necessary.
Some roads could flood including Highway 9 and Slater Road.
