WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – You could be allowed to bet on sports later this fall at the Silver Reef and other tribal casinos in Washington.
The Seattle Times reports the U.S. Department of the Interior approved sports gambling compact amendments for the Lummi, Stillaguamish, Tulalip, Snoqualmie and six other Washington tribes.
The U.S. Supreme Court raised the stakes in 2018 when it struck down a federal law that banned sports betting everywhere but Las Vegas and a handful of other places.
Individual states can now chart their own course, and Washington is among more than two dozen that have authorized some form of sports betting.
