BELLINGHAM, Wash. – More work to enhance salmon habitat in Bellingham will begin this month.

City of Bellingham Public Works will begin the next phases of the Squalicum Creek Re-route project on July 13.

It builds on two prior phases to address water quality and habitat issues associated with Bug Lake, which is a man-made gravel pit created during the construction of I-5 that is now a source of warm water harmful to salmon.

Project construction is planned for July to December 2020 and the most significant traffic impacts are expected for 2-3 weeks in July or August when Squalicum Parkway will be reduced to one lane while crews install a new culvert.
