BELLINGHAM, Wash. — The stalemate continues at Bellingham City Hall as most homeless campers ignored a Friday deadline to move their tents 25 feet away from the building.
A group of belligerent protesters gathered at the site Friday and accosted and chased off reporters from KGMI, The Bellingham Herald and even the leader of a local homeless advocacy group as they tried to document what was happening.
Bellingham Police report that at one point protesters pried open the building’s front door and 20 to 30 individuals entered the main lobby.
Officers responded and cleared the building with no injuries and no damage done inside.
Mayor Seth Fleetwood says agitators from outside of Bellingham were among the protesters Friday.
The mayor’s office hasn’t announced any next steps in how to deal with the encampment that’s surrounded City Hall for more than two months.
