STANWOOD, Wash. — Stanwood Elementary is taking a big step to better prepare for earthquakes.

On Thursday, they will offically be the first Washington school to go live with an emergency alert system called ShakeAlert.

ShakeAlert will send an early earthquake warning across Stanwood Elementary School’s PA system, prompting students to drop, cover, and hold on.

After the drill on Thursday, scientists from DNR’s Washington Geologic Survey will talk to students about seismic safety.
