OLYMPIA, WASH – The State Department of Natural Resources says if it doesn’t get more money for wildfire season, it will start with a deficit.
“We actually have a greater need now to replace equipment because of back to back fire seasons that we had that put a tremendous amount of stress on our fleet,” Bob Johnson with DNR says.
The agency asked lawmakers for $13 million but none of the budget proposals released so far include the funding.
Public Lands Commissioner Hilary Franz says they’ll struggle if the request isn’t met before fire season gets underway.
