The Department of Fish and Wildlife used decoy deer to catch poachers during the fall hunting season.

The Skagit Valley Herald reports that robotic deer with real antlers and hides were used to make them appear lifelike. By using a remote control officers can make the decoys move their heads and legs.

The decoys were used to catch poachers hunting outside legal hours.

The Big Game Hunting Season and Regulation Pamphlet shows fall hunting hours begin a half-hour before sunrise and a half-hour after sunset.

Some poachers were caught this year in areas close to Clear Lake and near Acme, including areas north of Sedro-Woolley.
