EVERETT, Wash. – The State Transportation Commission approved a fare hike for the state’s ferry system.

The Daily Herald reports a nearly three percent boost in fares is coming in October for small- and standard-sized vehicles.

Fares for passengers are going up 2.1%.

The commission also approved similar increases for next year.

State lawmakers are requiring the Ferry System to come up with an additional $8.4 million in revenue.
