OLYMPIA, Wash. — An upcoming timber harvest project is meant to create a faster path to healthier Washington forests.
The Washington State Department of Natural Resources awarded its first Good Neighbor Authority restoration timber harvest sale to the Colville-based Vaagen Brothers Timber Company.
The project will reduce hazardous timber overgrowth on more than 600 acres in the Colville National Forest using mechanical thinning rather than clearcutting.
Hilary Franz, Commissioner of Public Lands, says it’s a good example of the partnerships needed to address the forest health crisis that has covered Washington with wildfire smoke the past few summers.
Our first #GoodNeighbor project in the @Colville_NF will help us address the forest health crisis that has filled Washington’s skies with wildfire smoke. Wildfire doesn’t care about who owns the forestland; neither can our restoration efforts.
