OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — The Washington State House has approved a bill to display a statue honoring Billy Frank Junior.
The late Billy Frank Junior was a Nisqually tribal member who championed treaty rights and protecting the environment.
A street near the Western Washington University campus in Bellingham is named after him.
The Olympian reports the House approved a bill that would start a process to replace Washington’s Marcus Whitman statue in the National Statuary Hall Collection with a statue of Frank.
The proposal now heads to the Senate.
