OLYMPIA, Wash. — A bill to prohibit open carry of guns at demonstrations and on the state Capitol grounds that passed the Washington Senate is now moving through the House.

SB 5038 was heard by the house Civil Rights and Judiciary Committee Tuesday.

Bill sponsor Patty Kuderer of Bellevue, framed the issue as one of public safety.

Opponents say the bill criminalizes gun ownership.

The bill sees its next review in committee executive session Friday.
