OLYMPIA, Wash. — The state House has passed a bill unanimously that would re-instate “Hailey’s Law,” which was inspired by a Whatcom County woman’s terrible injuries caused by a drunk driver.

The law passed in 2011 was named for Hailey Huntley, and required law enforcement to impound the vehicles of DUI drivers for 12 hours..

Hailey was badly injured in 2007 when a drunk driver who had retrieved her car after her arrest drove drunk again and crashed into her on the Mount Baker Highway.

The state Supreme Court found it unconstitutional last year.

Representative Luanne Van Werven of Lynden says she’s tweaked the legislation for “Hailey’s Law 2.0.”

It now heads to the Senate
