OLYMPIA, WASH. – Ninth District Congressman Adam Smith says the coming battle over President Trump’s proposed federal budget will be the ugliest he’s seen in 20 years.

“Promising a massive increase in defense, a huge infrastructure plan, promising to get rid of the health care bill and replace it with something we haven’t even seen, tax reform to cut taxes, it doesn’t add up,” Smith says.

President Trump proposes to boost military spending by $54 billion, while at the same time cutting funds to other departments including the Environmental Protection Agency and the State Department.

Smith promises to fight those cuts.

He says we could feel the effects of that fight soon as Congress has to pass a continuing budget resolution or face the possibility of a government shutdown.
