OLYMPIA, Wash. — Gun control is on the docket in Olympia.
Monday, the Law and Justice Committee heard a measure that would limit the sale, distribution and transfer of high capacity magazines capable of holding more than 10 rounds of ammo.
Gwen Loosmoore is from the Washington State PTA and told the committee, “high-capacity magazines have been involved in many of our nation’s most deadly school shootings,” adding, “the whole point of high-capacity magazines is to allow the gun to continue shooting.”
The Washington Civil Rights Association raised concerns on the measure’s constitutionality, saying the bill has already been found twice to be unconstitutional in federal court; furthermore it bans the importation of magazines, setting up a 14th Amendment conflict under equal protection under the law.
