OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) – It’s week two of the special session in Olympia as lawmakers try to find agreement on an operating budget.

Funding for education is the big issue, with no real sign of progress yet.

John Sattgast is a spokesman for Republicans in the House.

“The House Democrats want to boost taxes by about $8 billion. Senate Republicans are looking at levy reform, over there. Which does raise taxes in some areas and reduce taxes in other areas. And that’s where they’re butting heads.”

Special sessions costs taxpayers about $20,000 a day.
